Preparation is the key for a successful painting result
It's very important to do the right preparation before we paint, both on new and old houses. For older houses or renovations, we first ensure the interior is protected - this can include wrapping items including the furniture before we begin scraping and sanding of doors, windows, ceilings, skirtings etc. We also spot prime and apply any filler where required. For new houses we can gib stop before plastering.
Ensuring a smooth finish with expert skimming and plastering
Before paint can be applied, interior walls need to be either skimmed or plastered to ensure the paint is applied on smooth surface.
Skimming is a method used on existing or older homes so is often used when renovating. A thin coat of plaster is applied to the surface with existing plaster (could be a wall, ceiling or skirting) to smooth out the walls or repair damaged dry wall. Skimming gives a level 5 finish - this is a premium quality finish.
Plastering is usually carried out on walls, ceilings and skirtings in new builds and extensions to existing homes. Plastering offers a Level 4 finish which is ideal for painting.
